Madeleine Quirke : Wexford Festival Fringe 2015

Wexford Fringe is an annual open-access arts festival which will run in parallel to Wexford Opera Festival from Friday, 16th October to Sunday, 1st November 2015. Now in its 63rd year, Wexford Fringe offers an eclectic mix of over 300 events over 17 days including cabaret, comedy, circus, dance, film, theatre, puppetry, music, and visual art, many of which are free to attend.

Unlike a curated festival, the open-access nature of Wexford Fringe means that anyone with a show, exhibition or cultural event is able to register and be part of one of Ireland’s largest Fringe Events. The result is one of the most diverse fringe festivals in Ireland, renowned for fresh ideas, spontaneity and fun.

Artists from around Ireland and further afield participate alongside home-grown talent, in art forms spanning cabaret, comedy, circus, dance, film, theatre, puppetry, music, visual art and design.

Wexford Fringe takes over the entire town with over 300 events staged in pop up venues as well as established venues such as theatres, hotels, art galleries, cafes and civic buildings.

What differentiates Wexford Fringe from many other Fringe Festivals is that alongside the ticketed open access programme are the Fringe produced and/or supported special free events, which run throughout the programme. These events add to the carnival atmosphere that engulfs the town and includes the Wexford Festival Opera and Wexford Speigeltent Festival.

For independent artists, Wexford Fringe is an inspirational environment to showcase their work. For audiences, it’s an opportunity to see exciting and entertaining contemporary work in an atmosphere that encourages taking a chance and seeing and discovering something new.

The programme includes, but is not limited to, a variety of art forms including cabaret, children’s events, comedy, circus & physical theatre, dance, film, theatre, music, visual art and design. See more at: wexfordfringe.ie/#sthash.72ekCuPP.dpuf
